  • The link is the entry point; the session contains the recipient’s actions.
  • Opening or viewing does not establish completion of signing.
  • Session timeout, link validity and request expiry are distinct controls.

What is a signing session?

A signing session is the interaction through which a recipient accesses a document, reviews it and completes assigned actions. “Signing ceremony” can describe the broader presentation of disclosures, checks and confirmation around those actions.

Session versus signing link

The signing link provides an entry point to a signature request; it is not the session itself or proof that signing occurred. Sign.Plus distinguishes opening the link from viewing the document after disclosure consent. Those events should not be read as proof of agreement to every term.

Treat the invitation as intended for its recipient. Where a replacement signer is needed, use permitted reassignment rather than assuming that forwarding access preserves the intended identity checks.

Does session expiry cancel the agreement?

Access-link validity, an authenticated session timeout and a request deadline are different controls. There is no universal duration implied by the term. Check the applicable settings instead of assuming that renewed access completes or legally terminates a contract.

A session may also occur through hosted in-person signing, rather than a remote recipient’s own device.

A Common Case: Returning to an interrupted session

A Washington legal-services client might open an agreement on a phone and pause before finishing. On returning, the client may need to access the request again. The sender should check actual completion rather than infer signing from the earlier access event.

FAQs

Is opening a signing link the same as signing?

No. Opening provides access; the recipient still needs to complete the relevant review, checks and assigned actions.

Does a session timeout mean the request expired?

Not necessarily. Session access, link validity and the request’s deadline are different controls with their own applicable settings.
