Keep Processing and Storage in Canada
Eligible Enterprise customers can select a Canadian data residency location, including Toronto. PHIPA does not require personal health information to remain in Ontario, so this is a configuration choice organizations can make based on their own requirements.
Backup and recovery processes remain in place regardless of the selected residency location.

How to Enable PHIPA Alignment in Sign.Plus
PHIPA alignment uses Advanced Security Controls together with a PHIPA Agent Agreement for eligible Enterprise accounts.
Open Settings
Log in to your Sign.Plus dashboard, then open Settings to begin configuring your organization's PHIPA compliance controls.
PHIPA alignment is available only on eligible Enterprise accounts with Advanced Security Controls enabled.
Open Security
From Settings, select the Security tab to access your organization's compliance controls.
Request the PHIPA Agreement
The Regulatory Compliance panel lists every healthcare compliance option available to your account, including PHIPA.
Select Request next to PHIPA Agent Agreement (Canada Only).
Complete and submit the agreement for validation. Once validated, PHIPA status is reflected in the Regulatory Compliance panel.

What is PHIPA?
PHIPA, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, is Ontario's health-data privacy law governing how personal health information is collected, used, disclosed, and protected.
Is Sign.Plus PHIPA compliant?
Yes, Sign.Plus supports PHIPA-aligned workflows for eligible Enterprise organizations that enable Advanced Security Controls and sign a PHIPA Agent Agreement.
How do I activate PHIPA compliance in Sign.Plus?
Choose an Enterprise plan, activate Advanced Security Controls, request and sign the PHIPA Agent Agreement from Regulatory Compliance settings, and complete the agreement validation process. Once validated, the PHIPA status is reflected in your account.
Do I need a BAA for PHIPA?
No. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is used for HIPAA. For PHIPA, eligible customers sign a PHIPA Agent Agreement instead, reflecting Sign.Plus's role as an agent under PHIPA section 17.
Does Sign.Plus offer Canadian data residency?
Yes. Eligible Enterprise customers can select a Canadian data residency location for Sign.Plus, including Toronto. PHIPA does not generally require personal health information to remain in Ontario, so organizations should choose residency settings based on their own requirements.
